Sri Lanka is a member of PCT therefore filing of PCT National phase patent application is possible in Sri Lanka. Deadline to file PCT national phase application in Sri Lanka is 30 months from the earliest priority date.

Additionally, patent applications can also be filed in Sri Lanka under Paris Convention claiming priority from foreign countries. Timeline to file a patent application under Paris convention is 12 months from the priority date.

Timeline for filing trademark and design applications in Sri Lanka claiming priority from foreign application under Paris Convention is 6 months from the priority date.

Sri Lanka patent office accepts applications in English language.

A Power of Attorney, proof of right and certified copy of priority document is required but filing of these documents at the time of filing the application is not mandatory and these documents can be filed later also.
