Mr. Afzal Hasan is an Advocate as well as Registered Patent Agent. He holds Masters degree in Chemistry from India’s top ranked, Banaras Hindu University (B.H.U.) Varanasi. He is registered to practice before Indian Courts as well as Patent, Trademark, Design and Copyright Office. He is an IP expert with about 19 years of professional experience dedicated to Intellectual Property Rights and industry, with key focus on chemical, pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Since past many years, he has been involved in handling Intellectual Property matters for Indian and overseas clients. Since past many years he has also been involved in handling patent and trademark matters for the firm’s Indian clients in more than 45 countries across the world and he is well versed with IP laws in those countries.
He has extensive experience in prior art searches, providing patentability opinions, conducting freedom to operate search, patent invalidity search, claims analysis and patent clearance opinions, drafting patent applications with claims, filing and prosecution of Indian, PCT International & Conventional Patent, Design and Trademark applications for Indian as well as foreign applicants. He has expertise in analyzing techno-legal objections in examination reports from Indian, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and overseas patent offices, providing suggestions to applicants / inventors, suggesting claims amendments and arguments to contest Examiner’s objections, preparing and filing response to examination reports in respective Patent Office.
His expertise also includes handling IP dispute matters, IP infringement matters, IP due diligence, handling opposition and revocation appeals, IP watch, advising on IP asset management and other contentious and non-contentious matters related to IP domain. He has also been actively involved in delivering lectures & imparting training on patent matters in various institutes and to scientists/inventors in R&D centers of many companies and has been regular speaker in various national and international events.
His expertise is extended in handling subject matters related to chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consumer healthcare, cosmetics, biochemistry, petro-chemicals, lubricants, agrochemicals, pesticides, polymer science, metallurgy, electrochemistry, mechanical, electrical, textiles, electronics & other related fields of science & technology. He has handled IP matters of some fortune 500 companies in these technology verticals.
He has also been extensively involved in reviewing and drafting license agreements, NDAs, MOUs, cease and desist notice relating to IP infringements, preparing techno-legal draft for court petitions in IP infringement matters, handling cross border IP dispute matters, handling patent, trademark and copyright infringement matters etc.
